Waterford Commemorations Programme
The people of Waterford were heavily affected by the War of Independence and Civil War, with ambushes, raids and curfews impacting the community. To commemorate this period the Waterford Commemorations Committee have a programme of community projects and continue to support more in-depth exploration and publications on the events of the Decade of Centenaries in Waterford.
Chuaigh Cogadh na Saoirse agus an Cogadh Cathartha go mór i bhfeidhm ar mhuintir Phort Láirge, le luíocháin, ruathair agus cuirfiúnna ag cur isteach ar an bpobal. Chun comóradh a dhéanamh ar an tréimhse seo, tá clár de thionscadail phobail curtha le chéile ag Coiste Cuimhneachán Phort Láirge agus leantar ar aghaidh ag tabhairt tacaíochta do mhionchíoradh agus d’fhoilseacháin ar na himeachtaí seo trí Dheich mBliana Chomóradh an Chéid i bPort Láirge.
Siege of Waterford
A programme of events will be held to commemorate the Siege of Waterford with talks and a walking tour on Saturday 16th July 2022 and a short film from James O’Doherty showing key locations and interviews with additional archival images from the period. James O’Doherty will also provide a live tweet of events as they happened 100 years ago on the anniversary of the siege on the 19th and 20th July.
Liam Lynch Film
Dungarvan photographer and videomaker John Foley who won the Údaras na Gaeltachta Award for Best Irish Language Production for his film Díoltas/Revenge in 2020 will be filming a documentary on Liam Lynch, Chief of Staff of the Anti-Treaty Forces who was killed on 10 April 1923 on the Knockmealdown Mountains.
Civil War Storymap
An online storymap to document and map all the events and incidents of the Civil War will be developed with research carried out by historian Cian O’Flaherty. Additional publications and educational resources will also be developed as part of the 2022 programme for the Decade of Centenaries.
